Essential Learner Outcomes
Lebanon High School
Business and Advertisements
Students will determine
the budget needs for the year, create a fundraising campaign, use appropriate
accounting practices and establish working relationships with publisher,
advertisers, distributors and school officials.
Grammar, Usage and Mechanics
Students will be able
to explain how grammar conventions are important to success in communicating
with other people.
Students will use
proper editing marks to proofread and correct copy for print.
Lay-Out and Design
Students will
construct visually attractive and readable publications by using knowledge of
effective design to fit graphical and text elements on pages and resolve
problems with space constraints.
Students will critique
newspaper, magazine and other periodicals for design principles and design
quality to be used in publications.
Photography
Students will become proficient in operating
digital and/or traditional cameras and equipment and edit, create and enhance
digital images.
Press Law
Students will demonstrate
an understanding of the historical role of the press and of the legal rights
and responsibilities of the professional and scholastic press and photography.
Writing and Listening and Speaking Skills
Students will prepare
stories for LHS Publications by writing copy (news, sports and feature/Student
Life and Academics), marking copy and developing headlines for each story.
Students will
demonstrate their understanding of speaking and listening skills through
planning and executing interviews, communicating effectively with peers,
superiors, government officials and others in the context of the newspaper and
yearbook.
Students will develop
appropriate captions for photographs used in LHS Publications.
